Made my lifetime membership at Weight Watchers last Sunday, dropping down to 164.4 lbs. from 189 lbs, all since last October. Go me. Now to conivnce myself that I still need to be drinking diet sodas so I don't jsut gain it all back. :/

I'm sticking my nose in, so feel free to tell me to shove off if you want.

I was reading a news article just a few days ago about a study that showed a strong association between diet sodas and long term weight gain.

The group doing the study was, frankly, surprised. They think it probably isn't causative (that perhaps some people are just eating bigger serves because they're having diet soda), but they just don't know.

I could try to find the link if you're interested, but I bet it would turn up if you googled on "diet soda" "weight gain" and clicked on recent stories from reputable news providers (there's lots of kooks out there too).

Anyway, just thought that might be of some use to you.

By the way, you're a fair bit lighter than me. In fact you're just about my ideal weight (I'm about 5 kg over it, but that was a deliberate choice for a particular reason I won't bother you with). I've been 94 kg and I've been 68 kg (the 94 was as a result of medical advice to eat more, the 68 was not), but I generally hang around the 80kg mark.

No offense taken. I'll have to look that study up. I didn't signifigantly change my diet when I dropped the sodas. Actaully I was pretty bad. Aside from trying to avoid sweets and soda, I didn't even really follow the WW plan.

And I know my weight gain wasn't all that signifigant. I just got tired of looking at my gut in the mirror. I'm not going to worry about trying to develop washboard abs these days though. :)

Congratulations! Go you, indeed!

I'm coming up on a year since hitting my goal weight (I think it was July sometime...), and am still maintaining. Still going to the meetings most weeks, too, as a reinforcer.

I can't help with the soda issue, as I just cut 'em out altogether. I'd always been more of an unsweetened iced tea drinker, anyway, so it wasn't that hard.

Hey Congrats

Ive thought of joining weight watchers but i think ive used up all my self control this year on quiting smoking, which horribly has caused me to gain 5kilos.
I've sat on the same weight now for 2 years, but i know i should loose some weight. Gah maybe next year, smoking was bad enough you cant make me stop drinking coke too, that would be too cruel
