Good Thing #1: Our meeting with Tom's teachers went well. Apparently he's been fairly zooming along in language development, which we've noticed some at home, but his teachers were particularly impressed. Motor skills he's still somewhat behind, and of course he isn't potty-trained, but they gave some suggestions for stuff to work with him at home to help him along.

Good Thing #2: We also got the initial draft of the social worker's report for China Girl's adoption. It was accurate, and yet still managed to be fairly glowing. :)

Bad Thing #1: Steve is going to have to put Maxx down on Saturday. His kidneys are failing, and his heart arythmia is getting worse, and there isn't much the vet can do for him. All we're doign riht now is making him as comfortable as we can. The real kicker is that Friday is Steve's birthday, and ten years ago is when Steve adopted Maxx from the shelter. The poor man was sobbing when he came home to give us the news. This is really going to screw with his mental state, and frankly that scares me.

Bad Thing #2: Either Tom was picking up on the bad vibes in the house, or he had a reaction to the new cough & cold medicine the doctor recommended. Anyway, he went to bed at 7:30 last night, work up fussing and crying at 10:30, and we didn't succeed in getting him to go down again to sleep until 2 am. He slept until a quarter after six, but Tracy and I are still feeling mighty dead.

Well, *yay* for the good news! What a difference it makes to parents to hear the lovely word "improvement." This is a good word. And *yay* for good social workers!

How sad for your housemate to lose his *family* - no good time, but yeah, day before birthday = sucks. Good thing for him he has y'all to be supportive. I hope that after the actual event, he will feel better. Every time I've had to do it, the worst were the days before, cuddling and remembering, soothing and knowing that you won't be able to do so soon. Tell Steve he has best wishes for him during this painful time.
