He's doing better now that we have antibiotics for him. Yesterday his fever broke, but we're going to keep him at home today and Friday just to give him time to recover before he goes back to school.

We had a meeting with his teachers yesterday as well. Overall it went well. He's about a year behind where he ought to be developmetally, but he has made signifigant progress since the beginning of the school year. To help him out in some of his social deficiencies his teachers want to extend his schooling by one hour a day, and add an additional day on Friday.

It was a much more positive meeting than last time, with Miss Hope charting out what Thomas can do and has is learning, compared to last time when they seemed to be concentrating on what he couldn't do yet.

Not that one person's experience is a tell-all, but I have found that there tends to be more "half-full" than "half-empty" types in the field of child development interventions. But it's the negative ones who piss you off and bring you down. I used to get so frustrated, because you couldn't win with some of these people! On the one hand, if you expressed optimism about your child's strengths, you were a hopeless fool with your head in the clouds, totally out of touch with reality. But if you shared and doubts and misgivings, you were a pessimist not willing to try to help your kid be the best he could be. ARRRGGH!

Anyway, glad Thomas is feeling better! That's the important bit right now!

Well, Miss Hope was pretty up front about Tom's evaluation, using a standardized scoring system to show where he was and where he really ought to be. They seemed to be realistic about what he was capable of and what they were going to try and teach him. We'll just have to cross our fingers and go on from here.

Hmm, go through and onward, maybe a dab of forward momentum...why does that sound so familiar? :)
