"So what's her condition?" the First One asked.

"Fairly poor. The fusion plant was stripped out, along with the weapons and sensors. About the only thing that's left is the life support plant and the hull itself," Nan said gloomily.

"Sensors and weapons I can buy myself," he said. "We don't need a fusion reactor as long as there are ferin aboard her."

"Yes, but can't you pressure the Council into giving you something better?"

"She's the Veracious, the first Vulpine ship I ever served aboard. Seems only right that I finally command her."
