Figuring the average Processing center has five hundred Processing stations, each taking an hour to process an average sized human, to completely fill a vault with ten million humans for storage would take a bit over 830 days. Must have been fun for all the folks in the relaxation camps waiting for their turn...

Emphasis on average sized. Makes note for tomorrow's flash fic.

The Ring is in geosynchronous orbit above the earth and is 5,000 (not five) kilometers in diameter. Methinks they'll need some mirrors set in place so as not to screw up with the Earth's day/night cycles.

Day/Night cycles on the Ring itself are set via polarizing panels mounted on the inside edge of the Ring. The GroupMind chose this after deciding that having orbiting panels ala Ringworld was too much of a safety hazard. That and they wanted an extra safety factor so the air wouldn't spill out.

Yeah, that means that trying to launch an escape rocket would just end up with you banging against the roof. Not that the Groupmind would let you get that far anyway.

Speaking of RingWorld, the Ring's meteor defense system has enough brains to tell the difference between a high speed rock and a man made object. The Ring is a Big Smart Object, thankyouverymuch. Fast and efficient hyper-monorails are already part of the local transportation net as well.

Actually the Groupmind has a lot of opinions about Ringworld and the Known Space universe in general, but there are still a lot of Larry Niven fans in the human population, so It keeps Its opinions to Itself.

And back to our favorite Elfboi and his owner.

Maria opened her umbrella as their canoe approached the geyser shooting out from the lake. "Is it just me, or is the water shooting higher now?" she asked, as cold salt water pelted down on them. The geyser had to be a hundred feet high now, even though it was forcing its way through the ten feet of water that now covered the hill in the center of the valley.

"You're right. The boat must have slipped down further beneath the water," Tez said, setting his oar down in the boat. "If it goes much deeper there won't be any way to cap the blasted thing."

"Oh, wonderful. Wait, what's happening now?" Even as she spoke, the geyser sputtered, then disappeared, the remaining water falling into the lake with a splatter. "Oh, did it get blocked by a rock at the other end? We couldn't have gotten that lucky."

"I'm never that lucky," Tez muttered.

There was a belch of water, like a drain spitting back up briefly, then the geyser shot upward again, carrying with it a glowing ovoid that shot through the air over their heads to slam back into the lake. Tez and Maria both grabbed their oars and paddled to where the ovoid floated, then shimmered and disappeared, leaving a human shape floating in the water.

Maria reached down and grabbed the floundering figure, pulling out a tall, dark faced girl with horns curving poking out from her black hair. "Alisa?" Maria cried out.

"Hi Mom, hi Dad," their daughter panted, crouching on the bottom of the canoe. "I"m so glad we found you!"

Plot Bunny: It's the Avenger's first night together at the newly renovated Avenger's Tower, and rather than have everyone stand around awkwardly staring at each other, Tony breaks out his old D&D boxed set and starts up a game.

Well, Tony being Tony it wouldn't be in boxes, it would be set up in an interactive holographic DM screen that probably costs more than a mint copy of 1st Edition Chainmail signed by both Gary Gygaax and Dave Arneson, and it wouldn't be D&D anymore but a ridiculously complex homebrew system that he has to spend two hours teaching everyone else.

"Okay, everyone choose your classes. Clint?"

"Ranger."

"Natch. Natasha?"

"Drow Thief/Acrobat/Assassin"

"Thor?"

"Paladin."

"Steve already gets dibs on that one."

"I do?"

(Everyone else) "Yes."

"As you will. Fighter then."

"Cool. Rhodey?"

"Magic-user"

"You're kidding, right?"

"One Word: Fireball."

"Gotcha. Bruce?"

"Cleric."

"Not a half-orc barbarian?"

"No."
