jeriendhalFinalyl got a chance to see this last night at Jim's place, as a sort of late Christmas party. No-spoilers here, just some random observations.
1. Russell Davies is an evil, evil man, who realizes that Doctor Who ceased being a kiddy-educational show a long time ago.
2. He's also very, very good at turning the emotional screws on the audience, by showing that if the Doctor loses, innocent civilians are going to get hurt. A lot of them. Not just the immediate circle of scientists and military types who have the bad luck being in the Doctor's orbit when the crisis hits.
3. That said, I really wish they'd lose Rose's mum. Yes, it's all very well that Rose has emotional ties to family back on Earth, but the shuttling back and forth between all points in space and 21st century London kitchen-sink drama is a bit silly.
4. IMO the Prime Minister did the right thing.
5. The Doctor also did the right thing.
6. However: Being a complete bastard and a Timelord, trumps being a complete bastard and the PM of a dinky little island in a backwater part of the Mutters Spiral.
7. Never mess with a man saving the world in his PJ's.
8. Tuba Bazookas rock.
