Finished converting Opening Shots into a manuscript format, suitable for submission to pro publishers, and scraping the serial numbers off of the story so it doesn't conflict with Peta's copyrights. Some observations along the way:

1. Converting it to twelve point, double-spaced, Courier typeface kicked the page count up to 124 pages, the size of a novella. Not a very good idea for a first submission to Analog, but I honestly don't have anything shorter. I tend to babble on when I write. :/

2. I am entirely too enamored with using italics for emphasis. I must have gotten rid of half the ones I'd originally inserted, excluding thought monologs.

3. Creating alien names out of whole cloth and not having them sound utterly stupid to my ears is hard.

So, anybody want to look at a fresh manuscript, and give me some contructive criticism? E-mail me at SirTalen@gmail.com and I'll send it along to you in Word format.

Edit: Checking Analog's submission guidelines, it's definitely going to need some work. For one thing it exceeds their recommended maximum on a novelette's word count by over 600 words. And I'm not going to fool myself into thinking they'll make an exception just for little 'ol me. I need to cut it down by at least that much, maybe more to make it more platable to them. 20,000 words from a newbie author might be too much for Stan Schmidt to take, whether or not they really "examine every manuscript on it's own merits."
