The US military came up with some Goddamn insane stuff during the 50's & 60's. This goes right up next to the USAF's nuclear powered bomber.

You know, they built a hanger for the nuclear powered airplain in eastern Idaho. People race fire trucks there.

Big hanger! :) More seriously, I have to wonder what they did with the airframe for the thing. Even after they disposed of the reactor, it had to have been too hot to leave in storage.

It's what you shoot at the first Soviet tank across the border. Just a nuclear starter pistol.

Actually, from how it was explained to me, it's the equivilent of a big demo charge. Need a bridge blown up to stop a tank brigade? Use the The Bomb instead of sending in a 20-man team of combat engineers or a debateably accurate bombing flight.

Still, I'd rather not be the poor launch crew. One wonders how close they were required to be to properly set it off...

I take it you haven't played Metal Gear Solid 3

It features one of those babies being shot in the first half of the game. As well as a bunch of other fun exotic 1950s tech like the black bird, those kooky experimental heliplatforms the US air force played around with for a while, soviet nuclear proff tanks and the "caspian sea monster" soviet ground effect air transport.

And then there's the shagohod, which is fictional, but looks pretty awesome when it's bearing down on you.

Now I'm going to have to put that on my birthday list. I haven't played it yet.

Shagohod?
