I've finally managed to bang all the goofs, errors, and extraneous words from the revised, serial numbers shaved off copy of "Opening Shots", and am ready to send it off to Analog. Now I knwo there are at least a couple of published authors who read this blog, and I think at least one of them got their first sale to Analog. So I've questions:

1) Did you include a cover letter?

2) If so, what did you include in it? The one example I found for a speculative fiction cover letter seemed terribly short, bascially just giving the name of the tale and the word count. Is that really enough, or should I be just a trifle more verbose (no more than a short paragraph), given that the final word count clocks in at 19,975?
