I don't think I buy it. This map shows that both of the places I've lived are "pop" country, but I almost never hear that. Usually "soda" in my experience, although "pop machine" is standard as well.
Waves hello from 80-100% soda country! (Alameda County, CA) Interestingly enough, Santa Clara County only maps 50-80% soda (all those transplants in the SiValley?)
