Random Notes
May. 9th, 2006 02:01 pmPerusing Toys 'R Expensive on Sunday, gathering supplies for Thomas' fifth birthday party (Dora the Explorer theme this time around), I came across "Elektra Barbie" (link: http://www.dollyrama.com/products/proH1699.htm) complete with black hair, impractically slinky red dress and matching bandanna, and plastic sais. Yes, your little girl too can pretend to be a teen fashion plate and a Greek assassin who finds herself trysting with Ben Affleck. *headdesk*
Of course that's slightly better than "Harley Quinn Barbie", which allows you to pretend to be the psycho girlfriend/doormat to an abusive boyfriend/supervillian.

Just finished "The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances", which has to be one of the most bloody creepy DW serials ever, and yet manages to avoid having the usual pile o' bodies that is usual at the end of a typical horror serial. It really benefitted from the 2-episode serial format, in the same way that "School Reunion" suffered for the lack of same. The problem with the latter episode was that while it hit every emotional beat that it should have (Sarah's bitter/happy reaction at meeting the Doctor again, Rose and Sarah going at each other, then trading Doctor stories, the sheer joy at seeing K-9 in action) things occured in such a bloody rush that it was hard to savor the individual moments. It didn't help that the primary MacGuffin was, even for Doctor Who, bloody ridiculous. Fun, but ridiculous.

Date: 2006-05-09 08:03 pm (UTC)hot psycho lesbian sexdeep friendship.Of course since Barbie is portraying both characters it would qualify as Twincest, assumming you're in a slashfic mood.

Date: 2006-05-09 07:12 pm (UTC)On the one hand, at least it sort-of looks like the character instead of the usual "Barbie cosplaying as superheroines" shtick.
On the other, Mattel really is scraping the bottom of the barrel for collectible Barbies.

Date: 2006-05-09 08:25 pm (UTC)Sure, a lesser man such as you or I might think that there's no need for a "clean Artoo" and a "dirty Artoo" in the same toy line. And that is why we are not Hasbro executives.
