Random Thoughts on KH2 (spoilers through to the end)

1) Mickey as Episode II Yoda was mildly freaky, but if you can accept Donald and Goofy as ass kickers, why piffle over The Mouse?

2) I Heart Ansem the Wise. I love hearing Christopher Lee's voice when he's not playing a character that's supposed to be scary. He gave Ansem/DiZ a solid personality, and managed to make a relatively realistic looking human being addressing a cartoon mouse as "My Friend" seem perfectly sensible.

3) And gods, seeing the Sorceror from Fantasia be addressed as "Yen Sid" just made me giggle. A fifty year old inside joke at Disney finally gets put to good use.

4) On the down side, Maleficent was really superfulous to the plot, having nothing to really do except show up at the end to insure the player knows that there is a KH 3 in the works.

5) Oh, f*ck, the final boss fight goes on forever. My hand was aching and I was playing in bloody Beginner mode. Plus it took my at least five tries before I managed to use Riku effectively at that one critical point in the battle.

Christopher Lee was completely awesome as Ansem, and doubly so once I realized that he wasn't the bad guy. That was such a refreshing change.

Although the "Metal Gear Solid" identity-switch with the Ansems was a bit annoying. I'm not sure if "everything you know is wrong!" moments really work for the KH series.

The silliness about Ansem the Bad Guy, Ansem the Heartless, Ansem the Nobody, Ansem the Riku did get annoying after a while, but compared MGS 2 it was positively simple. :)

As for Ansem the Wise, I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop.

"Okay, he's Ansem the wise and I'm getting these notes about his research inot the Heartless. Of course he's going to be a bad guy, he's being voiced by Christopher Lee."

"Okay, it's supposed to be his apprentice that went bad. Secretly it's really him."

"Ah, he's lying there with a weapon, and Mickey is approaching him like an old friend. Time to rescue the king."

"OMG, he really *is* a good guy!"

"No, he's going to mkae a last minute betrayal. Time for a yet another Boss Fight. *yawn*"

"No, he's making the Noble Sacrifice. WAAAAH! I don't him to die NOW!!"
