Hmm, I'm not sure if I agree with that.

| Neo-Liberal You scored 58% Personal Liberty and 32% Economic Liberty! |
| A neo-liberal believes in moderate government intervention on personal matters and moderate to high government intervention on economic matters. They believe in a social safety net or welfare state and try to balance personal liberty with safety or security. Some neo-liberals believe in more foreign intervention or war then most other leftists. Others are more like Centrist Democrats. More authoritarian-leaning Neo-liberals (such as personal 40/economic 30) are the result of a "fusion" between "old left" and "new right" tendencies. |

Date: 2006-09-20 05:59 am (UTC)I did it for fun and got similar results to our mutual friend. I suspect it was because I took a lot of lukewarm positions on most questions rather than being emphatically for/against something except on a few that look like nun-beating questions to my gay/liberal eyes. "Well of course I'm for gay marriage." If I had over analyzed that question I might have put it down as lukewarm as well because I'm willing to settle for domestic partnerships unlike a lot of my political firebrand friends.

You scored 64% Personal Liberty and 63% Economic Liberty!
A libertarian believes in little to moderate government intervention on both personal and economic matters. They generally believe in a government that is small and limited to the extent of protecting people's liberty. They tend to be opposed to war, police powers, victimless crimes, foreign intervention and what they consider to be a welfare state. They support both property rights and self-ownership. More moderate libertarians may use a more utilitarian or gradualist approach, while the more minarchist libertarians allow less room for compromise in a direction that they consider to be away from liberty. Libertarians generally support capitalism as an economic system. Libertarian thought tends to be individualist in nature.

A third way liberal believes in little to moderate government intervention on personal matters and moderate to high government intervention on economic matters. They tend to be opposed to war, police powers, victimless crimes, and what they may consider to be a corporate state or rogue capitalism. They generally support personal liberty and believes in a social safety net or welfare state. They support self-ownership and privacy. Third way liberals are essentially the "mainstream" left and left of center.
Yeah, I'm an old lefty....

Very likely you were, but the political landscape has moved far to the right from underneath you. I certainly have the same problem here. I used to be pretty centrist (for Australia at least) myself, but everything moved so far right in the last decade or so, while what I believe didn't change substantially - that I look decidedly left now.

You scored 50% Personal Liberty and 72% Economic Liberty!
A paleo-conservative believes in moderate government intervention on personal matters and little to moderate government intervention on economic matters. They support capitalism as an economic system and therefore are opposed to what they consider to be a welfare state. They believe in property rights or homestead. Some paleo-conservatives tend to have an "isolationist" bent to them, and therefore are more likely to be opposed to foreign interventions then most rightists. Paleo-conservatives are reminiscent of the "old right" of the 30's, 40's and 50's. Strong Paleo-Conservatives border on Libertarianism.
