jeriendhalDangerMouse Seasons 3&4: If it's possible, this show is even more nonsensical than when I saw it as a teenager. And still screamingly funny if only for the narrator's nicely neat illeterative exposition.
Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, aka Miyazaki's Big Fat Mary Sue Movie. Which actaully worked. The enviromental theme didn't quite verge into the irritating, and as always with Miyazaki the flight scenes were marvelous. Even if the main character was so earnest she made my teeth ache.
Star Blazers: The Quest for Iscandar: Another show with it's heart on its sleeve (and its Dub artists overacting). While its definitely a kid's show with science that could be politely described as excreable (and laughable cuts in violence), the plot can't help but be compelling, and its one of the first daily cartoons from Japan that experiemented with actual plot and characteriztion. Even these days, where are you going to see a character weeping and pleading with God to save his beloved?
Also, I heart Desslok.

Date: 2007-04-27 12:24 pm (UTC)Did you know that I once adapted numerous ludicrous and surreal elements out of that series for an adventure I ran at Balticon? The Dream Machine, count Duckula...why at one point, I had them caught between the Devil and the Deep Blue Three!
2: Of course it worked. It's Miyazaki. Even I, who knows jack-all about Anime, know that. The kids love his stuff. Every time one of his films comes on Cartoon NEtwork, they want to watch.
3: Star Blazers - Squee! Have added to my NetFlix queue. I remember having a battleship model that we kept claiming was their ship...
