Random thought occured whilst I was re-reading GURPS Mysteries. Has anyone written a novel or series of novels that are basically the cozy and/or hard-boiled detective novel set in the Old West?

In other news, Rolas is being emo and refusing to come out and help me with the plot, so the next Red Vixen entry may be a while.

Closest I can think of is the Benjamin January series which goes around the edges of the Old West (New Orleans, Mexico) in the 1830s.

[livejournal.com profile] celticdragonfly suggests Tony Hillerman's series set modern Navajo lands.

I don't know how Old West it is, but one of the Continental Op stories by Dashiell Hammett is set in a '20s mining camp. Lessee ... Yeah, Red Harvest. Personville, Montana. Reads just like Yojimbo or For A Fistful of Dollars.

Which isn't terribly surprising since Kurosawa based Yojimbo on Red Harvest and FFoD was based off of Yojimbo. :)
