Summary: DC's greatest heroes make the transition from the Golden Age of the 1940's to the Silver Age of the 60's.

Review: In the broadest outline, this series covers the same ground as the made for DVD movie that was inspired by it. The major difference is that the plot is bit more unfocused, as it spends time on characters (the Suicide Squad, The Losers, Challengers of the Unknown) which I'm sure resonate to long time DC fans, but which don't mean a whole lot to this kid, who grew up a Marvel Zombie. (I didn't really latch onto DC until Batman TAS premiered back in the early 90's.)

Which isn't to say it isn't good, but I was presented with many characters I was expected to recognise and appreciate, but which frankly didn't mean squat to me. The exception was the story of John Henry (whom I'm 90% certain was an original creation for the limited series) whose story was beautiful and tragic, but who didn't actually have anything to do with the plot.

Recommended for fans of DC comics, others may want to check it out from their local library before buying.

I remember the Challengers of the Unknown (although I didn't understand the phrase "living on borrowed time"), but not the others you mention. Back in the late sixties, I followed DC, but dropped them early in the '70s; when I got back into comics in the late '70s, it was Marvel all the way.

The book sounds interesting.
