Libraries are useful, but not if you're a book~whore, which would me and jmthane. That said, I go for the used books at Amazon. There are nice scores to be had!
Libraries, friends and bookstores are my book sources. Oh and if I only had 20 euro left I'd probably buy some food and a book. It's an essential living requirement. So I've never thrown away a book before.
Once I rescued a book that I found in an old paper container. And we have a really big market close by where you can buy anything, but it's never going to my favourite place: they don't have even one bookstand! Can you imagine :S
Oh and my family and friends always take a hold of my coat and pull me to the other side of the road when we pass a bookstore. I wonder why...
I usually get really new books from the library since I don't want to own a disaster, but normally I buy 'em. As for getting rid of books, that's so rare, but I do give them to the library or sell them on Amazon.
