Not April Fools
Apr. 1st, 2004 03:19 amSo I printed out a copy of "Unexpected Diversions" to give to my mom, along with Peta's illos, which she then handed over to a friend of her's who is a professional editor.
Apparently he liked it. (wOOt!)
He said the dialog was great. (w00t!)
He said I should consider adapting it as a play. (HUH?!)
I've e-mailed the guy to try and open and a dialog and find out WTF was he talking about. I mean, aside from the fact that play is pure fantasy, with an elf and a Beast-Kin, not the sort of dreadful Social Problems stuff or Andrew Lloyd Webber extravanganzas that appear on stage these days, it's got several scenes that are problematical at best. I mean in one Tez spends a great deal of time buck naked, and in the other he's being horsewhipped within an inch of his life. Can't see that happening on stage each night (twice with matinees)...

Date: 2004-04-02 06:26 am (UTC)Well yes, but I'll bet he was wearing a pair of polka-dotted undershorts underneath. The nude scene involves full "Oh, Calcutta", artist model nudity (though half the time he'd be facing away from the audience, and for most of the first half of the story he's running around with no shirt. Admittedly it has been on the stage before, but not for something that's basically fluffy fantasy.
The whipping scene OTOH probably could be simulated just through clever lighting and stage direction. Darken the lights and just have a lotta screaming...
