Micro Review: The Cars That Ate Paris
Jan. 17th, 2009 02:02 pmSummary: In director Peter Weir's (Dead Poets Society, Witness) first feature film, sad sack, out of work drifter Arthur finds himself in the tiny, isolated Australian town of Paris after an auto accident injures him and kills his brother. As he wanders about the town, he gradually realizes that the people there have a very unusual relationship with their automobiles.
Review: I'll admit I'm just 15 minutes into this film and have to say it's slow going. It kinda says something about it that even Weir admits on an interview on the DVD that the film was a failure. Basically it's a collection of wierd incidents that would have any normal person running for the hills, but Arthur, in typical horror film fashion, just kinda sticks around until something resembling a plot kicks in.
Sometimes great directors are recognizable from the start of their carreers, sometimes the only direction they have to go is up. Peter Weir is apparently of the latter category.
