AKiCiF: Saturday Morning Sci-Fi Show?
Jul. 16th, 2009 05:54 amI'm trying to remember the name of a live-action Saturday morning kids show I remember seeing in the early 2000's briefly. I think it lasted less than a season, and suffered from more ambition than budget, but it was a very good try at doing a mostly serious sci-fi serial adventure for the FOX Kids bunch.
Premise: Three space cadet are in Earth orbit, assigned to help repair an artificial satellite using rather clever control modules that can be attached to various vehicles and equipment. Something goes wrong and they find themselves catapulted across the galaxy, fighting a stereotypical Evil Warlord. IIRC they have the means to get home. but they don't dare try, because the hyperspace trail would lead the warlord straight to Earth.
Characters: White Kid, White Girl, Ethnic Kid, sexy female mentor alien (I can't remember the name, but I think she went on to play another alien in Crusade) Also they had an alien pet onthe starship they were hanging out on, you looking like ostrich or a raptor, and was displayed using a combination of puppetry and some reasonably sophistacted (for that era) CGI.
Edit: Answering my own question, the show was Hypernauts, with the mentor alien being played by Carie Dobro, who also played the alien thief on Babylon 5: Crusade.
