Dear Nobel Committee.

While I realize "Not being George W. Bush" is a huge plus in... well... everyone's eyes, I really don't think it's enough to qualify for the Nobel Peace Prize.

I wonder how blatantly this will be used by Obama's opponent in 2012. "President Obama is well-liked by the countries of the world. How can he possibly represent our interests?"

I should perhaps have written "the Republican party candidate for the office of President of the United States of America" rather than "Obama's opponent." Yes, I certainly acknowledge that it's a huge black mark on Obama's record at the moment, and I didn't mean to imply that many people who dislike Obama and are ideologically opposed to him are going to wait until 2012 before claiming that being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize is necessarily a bad thing. But I was and remain curious to see how it will factor into the 2012 campaign for President, something that has not yet (thankfully) begun in earnest.
