moonshadowed's grandmother today, didn't make my writing goal this week at all, crappy mood all around. The solution? Twist
chaypeta's second favorite race's souls until they scream.
The Vulpine Imperium
History
The Varn Dominion conquered Vulpine Prime at what turned out to be an auspicious time for the Vulpine. Well into their world's equivilent of the Industrial Revolution, a new age of Reason had dawned, as their race shook off the old fashioned superstitions of the "Holy Den Mother" in favor of cool, secular Science. Farm fields were rapidly being plowed over to build new factories, and the dark smoke filling the air of the narrow streets of the new cities was a sure sign of Progress.
When the Varn came, the first reaction of the Industry Lords was to laugh. Worship a new set of gods, when they had just abandoned their old one? Ridiculous! But the new and mighty weapons the Dominion brought with them were a convincing argument to yield.
There was hope however. The Varn were obviously a decadent race, dependant on their servants and no longer accustomed to getting their hands dirty. Further, the Ministry of Science's difference engines had calculated that a slow, patient plan might yeild better results than an active resistance to their new "Wise Masters". So the Vulpine bided their time, and gradually made their technological skills indespensible as they learned all they could of the varn's knowledge of science.
Two hundred years later they struck. Overnight the Varn found that their vaunted Ferin's ability to generate power did little good when the power stations were no longer connected to the grid. Nor did deploying their Creo minions help when their weapons began to mysteriously malfunction. Once their supposedly immortal Wise Masters began to die, the Creo, Galen and the other subjugated races rapidly began to turn to the Vulpine's cause. The subsequent War for Freedom lasted all of five years, before the pitiful remnants of the Varn Dominion escaped into the Ardactavian Hive.
But the Vulpine's work was not done. Now in control of the Ferin breeding domes and the major production centres, they turned their eyes to the other races the Varn had conquered. The weak races that had never shown enough backbone to rise up for their own freedom, until the Vulpine showed them the way. Using the threat of the Hive as a motivator, backed by their control of the heavy weapons and the nigh incalculable value of the Ferin, it was easy to bring these lesser peoples under the strong, wise hand of the newly formed Vulpine Imperium.

Date: 2009-11-20 12:32 pm (UTC)(I hope they at least have the same vulpine sensibilities to ferin as in the canon universe. maybe they form an Alliance, though it's hard to think of ferin becoming political.)

Date: 2009-11-20 02:47 pm (UTC)Let me put it to you this way, the Vulpine presented here are the bastard children of Facism and Ayn Rand. They don't have too much use for people who aren't self-motivating.
More in Part Two later.

Date: 2009-11-20 08:16 pm (UTC)I mean, that's the perfect reasoning for taking over the galaxy after the power vacancy left by the Varn.
*I like the canon version! I do! It's a very happy version that makes for a good story element!

Varn radios Earth: "My, what a nice planet you have. I think we'll take it off your hands. Aren't you so lucky we have arrived to tell you how to take better care of it?"
Earth: "Right. Frak off and leave."
Varn, slightly irked: "Now children. Is that any way to talk to your new Gods?"
New Version
Vulpine Admiral: "My, what a nice planet we have found. Teeming with new laborers for the Imperial Factories. Hello down their, start celebrating the arrival of your landlords. We're here to bring you into the Great Vulpine Imperium."
Earth: "Right. Frak off and leave."
Irked Admiral: "Tut tut, none of that now. It will be good for you. And if you behave we'll make sure your pay covers both your rent and food."
See. No, "Bow down and worship us as your gods!"
Okay, so it's only a slight improvement. :}
