Extremely slow day at work, so I decided to write a bit more on Assassinating the Dead. Unfortunately I ran into the problem of having to detail the plot a bit more. Going to have a fiddle with Y Writer before I proceed any further. Need clues for Blakely and Tim to discover...

Actually I need to figure just how the victim really was killed before I go further. Because the scenario is: 1) In broad (okay, shaded by trees) daylight, which leaves out vampires, and 2) at the wrong time of the month for a were to shapechange (unless he was already seriously injured, which would mean a much more violent crime scene).

Must ponder. I'll post what I've written so far momentarily.

So, if you have a spare moment, tell me about Y Writer. Is it worth the download? Do you use it much?

Ywrite is a novel writing program for PC's... free to download. I started using for nano and I'll never go back to Word again. It allows you to store lists and descriptions about characters, items, locations. List chapter headings and descriptions, list scenes, write the synopsis for each scene so you've got it sitting there at the bottom of the screen as you write the scene. Chop and change around scenes and chapters. The ability to print out just the synosis or characters with any mucking about and lots of other functions all in a neat little application. I highly recommend it.

I went to the website yesterday, and, being something of a neophyte when it comes to downloading software, was rather stymied by the mention of "System Requirements:
This program runs on the Microsoft Dotnet Framework, which can be installed on any version of Windows from Win98 on. (e.g. Win98, ME, Win2K, XP, Vista, Windows 7, etc) Note that it's already included with Windows Vista or later."

I have no idea what this is, how much space it takes, what it'll do to the functioning of my computer when I'm not running YWrite, or anything else. There is a link, but it doesn't explain things well for someone like me. Do I have to worry about this or can I just download YWrite and be done with it (I'm running XP Home Edition 2002, Service Pack 3)? If I do, is it worth downloading an extra program I know nothing about just to get YWrite? And does YWrite unpack itself or do I need to manually unzip the file, and if so how do I do that?

This sort of thing baffles me every single time.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Don't worry, I'm no puter wiz, I've got a IT hubby for that. Even so i didn't need him to get Ywriter up and running. it was pretty easy really. It's a very small download and just does most of it by itself. I haven't noticed any conflict with any other program I've run. i checked with a friend who's running it on an ancient laptop ans she doesn't have any issues with it either. Sorry I'm not much help. All i can say is I've never come across anyone who has experienced any problems with it.

Yes, thanks, but what I don't understand is whether I need to download this dotnet network thing first, or if I can just download YWrite. How do I find this out, do you know? Did your computer already have the dotnet network thing, or did you have to download it, too?

Royce, I'm really interested in YWrite, but I can't find enough information about how to download it to do me any good. Can you help?

I don't understand about the dotnet network thing. Do you know where I can find out if I have to download that first or not?

Thanks!

I don't understand what you mean about "dot network". I just hit the download button and loaded it right up. :(

This is what I'm referring to. It's from the download page (http://www.spacejock.com/yWriter5_Download.html)

"System Requirements:
This program runs on the Microsoft Dotnet Framework, which can be installed on any version of Windows from Win98 on. (e.g. Win98, ME, Win2K, XP, Vista, Windows 7, etc) Note that it's already included with Windows Vista or later."

I don't know if I already have this dotnet thing, if I need it, what it would do to my computer if I downloaded it, or what.

Help?
