Woke up this morning and looked outside when I realized the heat pump was making funny humming noises. A closer look revealed that while there's warm air circulating in the house (via the backup heater in the basement furnace/AC) the heat pump's fan is no longer turning. After digging a trench through the accumulated snow that makes the backyard look like Verdun during the Christmas Truce, I got to the heat pump to find it almost complete covered in a sheath of ice and surrounded by snow. I'm not sure what happened but I suspect I'm going to have to make a call to Home Shield once the parking lot is dug out enough for them to get to us.
