Woke up this morning and looked outside when I realized the heat pump was making funny humming noises. A closer look revealed that while there's warm air circulating in the house (via the backup heater in the basement furnace/AC) the heat pump's fan is no longer turning. After digging a trench through the accumulated snow that makes the backyard look like Verdun during the Christmas Truce, I got to the heat pump to find it almost complete covered in a sheath of ice and surrounded by snow. I'm not sure what happened but I suspect I'm going to have to make a call to Home Shield once the parking lot is dug out enough for them to get to us.

Sounds like a freon leak. :( My HP in the Ruckersville house did that one very cold winter, too. It is, sadly, not a cheap fix. I'll be hoping that your problem is something else!!

It's no worry really. We've got supplementary insurance for our appliances, so the heat pump is already covered. One $50 fee and that's it for our expenses. Just annoying at this point.

Ahhh, that's great. I'll just hope that they can get to you soon, then!
