Writing up two separate martial arts in GURPS for [livejournal.com profile] chaypeta's Vulpine, one dorktacular, one deadly serious. Keep in mind I A) Don't have time to play GURPS anyway, and B) really hate the idea of drowning myself in all the combat options the GURPS Martial Arts gives players.

Anyway, the Way of Fang and Claw is designed for the period during the Twenty Years War, when there were Vulpine working undercover for the Resistance and they might have a chance at taking down Varn by brutal physical force. This involves taking a big leap and attempting to literally rip out a Wise Master's throat before getting inevitably gunned down

Vulpine Dueling Art is (of course) a sword fighting technique for our furry friends for use in matters of honour. The problem is that they lost all of the original Vulpine dueling styles during the Time of Subjugation, so they ended up borrowing the primary human style, as observed in the terribly, terribly accurate historical films Robin Hood, Captain Blood, the Three Musketeers (Gene Kelly, 1948) and of course The Princess Bride.

Yes, Vulpines think sword fighting revolves almost entirely around the art of "Flynning" as opposed to actually hitting someone.

This is also why chandeliers in public areas tend to hang from titanium chains....

But, but, but... I thought the dueling in The Princess Bride was actually supposed to be reasonably accurate! Isn't it?

Um, no. The styles Wesley and Inigo mentioned during their fight were certainly real. What they were actually doing... not so much. :)

Honestly, I think the most realistic sword fighting you're going to see in a swashbuckling film would be the Micheal York Three Musketeers and maybe Rob Roy (though my memory is a bit fuzzy on that last one).
