“Goddess bless this thing has a kick to it. Nothing like my old fighter-bomber,” Hazel noted some twelve hours later, after he had played instructor pilot and ran her through the White Knight’s somewhat personalized operating checklist. Then they had launched from the Scarlet Claw, leaving the pirate vessel to turn towards Newspring with the unfortunate Mac and a personally written letter from Rufus that would hopefully delay any eager law enforcers from arresting Lady Softpaw and her husband for piracy before they could deliver their charge.

“She’s a pure space superiority fighter,” Rufus said. “Most of her is engine except for the sensor and weapons package in the nose.”

“With the pilot and WSO stuffed between ‘em. It’s not exactly roomy in here either. You must have had a devil of a time keeping from cramping up on long flights.”

“That’s why I had the massager installed in the seat cushions.”

“You’re joking.” Hazel leaned down and paged through the ship’s life support system screen. “You’re not joking.” She touched a menu command and let out a happy sigh as he felt the seat’s vibrations rattle the floor under his feet. “Okay, unless it lies back flat so we can join the Lightspeed Club, I guess this will have to do for personal entertainment for the next day or two.”

“Sorry, that’s one perversion I never got around to in my bad old days.”

The use of the word perversion sounds a little heavy to me. Maybe something lighter..:-) Just an idea...makes Rufus sound a little dour in my opinion.

Well, he's a dour kinda guy compared to the canon version in cahypeta's comic. Experience has soured him a bit, while the canon version is still suffering a bit from Peter Pan Sydrome, dodging his resposibilities while playing the dashing space hero.
