Background
98% of the time, the Vulpine reputation for gentility is completely deserved. The other two percent is where Lord Rolas comes in. He doesn't bother to talk to anyone about how he fell into his profession. It might have had something to do with the accident that left his sister crippled and himself estranged from his family. For whatever the reason, he now works for his patron the Countess Highglider as a professional duelist, settling matters of honor by the sword when things have gone beyond words and apologies in the rarefied world of Vulpine nobility.
Essentially he settles matters of honor on behalf of nobles who have suffered a grave insult or have been challenged, but lack the skill with sword or pistol to carry out a threat or defense. He holds no particular malice towards his opponents. Indeed, it's difficult for him to work up the effort to care about them. However once he enters the Circle of Honor he generally makes sure that his oppoment doesn't leave it alive, unless utterly constrained by the agreed upon rules of engagement. And even then... well, accidents happen.
In combat he tends to be a deadly opponent, and his reputation is such that often when it becomes known that he's been hired, his opponent rapidly finds reason to back down and apologize. Sometimes Rolas even lets him.
