Note: I hate Apple. Hate them. Hate their irritating DRM restrictions. Hate their lack of generic interface plugs. Hate their mod styling. Hate their Cult of Personality marketing plan. Hate, hate, hate, hate.

But rest assured the poll is completely unbiased.

I do not like Apple at all now, but I was a huge old-school Apple II fan.

Media Player Classic with K-Lite Codec Pack. Plays every type of file there is on my PC.

Reader? Mark One eyeballs, and a book.

I kind of really want an i-Pad, but not until they are pressure sensitive (or come with a pressure sensitive pen/stylus). Or, y'know, any other tablet PC which has all the capabilities of an i-Pad.

Also, two cats, one roomba that is never used.

And I am like allah_sulu in that, I don't even print out PDF's, I read books.

Like, bound books from a library. Because you can download books in PDF form from the library, which are books, but not usually how I think of books. But my previous statement makes it sound like books in PDF form are somehow illegitimate as books. And they aren't. I just don't read them very often.

Amiga? car phone? lol

I have an iPhone which I use as my car phone and music player. It's pretty good for what it is but the whole apple experience is a sour one, and I won't be buying any more of their products unless I have a specific need for it. iPad is a beautiful friendly joke. It has a place but for someone like me that needs to use something like that for a variety of things it's pretty much useless in it's limitations.

I read ebooks on my iphone but if I want to do some proper reading (other than when I'm dropping the kids off at the pool) then I'll read a real paper book.

No cell phone at all, although I really need to do something about that. I've never actually, um, used the generic MP3 player I bought a few months ago.

And I mostly read paper, but the few ebooks I own I read on my netbook.

See icon for cats.

I'd almost (well, not really) trade my cat for a Kindle. I just finished a college course, and one of my instructors had a Kindle. Now I have kindle-envy.

You didn't have print bound paper books that you can find in bookstores and libraries in RL on there. Shame!

I actually don't really have a media player either. Well, actually it's my radio.

My mp3 player is technically an iPod, but I run Rockbox on it.

My next computer is going to be a mac because while it is far from perfect the Windows 7 is all the DRM stupidities with none of the working right advantages of a mac. I suppose I will have to learn how to use Windows 7 for work since most business will keep using it, but I'm sick of being a computer engineer in my leisure time.

I too am on the mac-hating bandwagon, although I own an iPod. A friend of mine has a Zune, though, and I've been thinking that when my iPod breaks (it won't last that much longer, I feel) I'll investigate the Zune for myself.

Ditto on being an actual-book kind of girl, though. Ebook readers look all fancy and are no doubt very helpful, but I like turning pages, and I *love* the smell of books.

We are weird: our personal laptops run a variety of Linux, and we tend to use cell phones that are trailing edge. Jack does have an iPod, but updates it via his Linux box. And our Kindle is also on the clunky side: first generation.

The Kindle is actually a PC-app, but I like it. And I want to say yes on the Roomba, but we have too many fringes.

re: Apple. Sympathize. At Apple ][ time I was a rabid fan, and I have to say that, since, they have done a great job at making tech accessible to non-techies.

But I'm a techie. And they are too big-brotherly.

You know I'm an apple guy, even though I make my living on PCs.

I'm currently *actively* using a MacMini and a MacBookPro; it's my third laptop. As you know, I had about 3 mac desktops before that. Average useful lifespan: 5 years each. Number of days lost to viruses, malware, or Windows' self-inflicted wounds? zero. The Mini is my home media server and file hub. I connect to it from the laptop or iPad, and the monitor is my 50-inch plasma TV.

I'm on iPod #2 -- my first one required a new battery midway through but lasted far longer than I had any right to expect. I upgraded to a much nicer one a year or so ago. I bought an iTouch specifically to avoid getting the iPhone because I have Verizon. I use it frequently, especially during travel.

It was my PC-centric company owner who decided we needed iPads -- and *i* was the one who suggested we wait. I am *absolutely* in love with it; I use it constantly for a ton of little tasks.

I've lost at 2 days of work every year to viruses or malware or windows stupidity.

The apple hate is pure contrarian nonsense. I use what works.
