Micheal Palin's Pole to Pole: In which our intrepid Pythonian visits Russia literally days before Gorbachaov is overthrown, the Sudan before it utterly collapses under inept leadership, and South Africa shortly after apartied is abolished, and only proves that he's a condescending colonialist git.
Interesting snapshot of the world at a certain time period, but if I had to listen to him go on about What the British Built In Africa one more time I was going to strangle the bastard.

Date: 2010-10-26 10:45 pm (UTC)It's important to remember that we don't really have government supported arts over here, like the BBC (aside from the National Endowment for the Arts, which is under perpetual attack by congressional blue noses). The Corporation For Public Broadcasting (PBS) receives a smidgen of government backing, but it's mostly supported by donations (corporate and from private individuals). It's very weird but it mostly works.
