Houston to ISS. Tom, you've stopped moving towards the main truss. What's going on?

"Uh, Houston," Tom said carefully. "I'm having a visual acuity problem in my right eye."

Say again, Tom?

"My contact lens rolled up into my eye, Houston."

Uh, roger, Tom. Do you think you might be able manage a workaround for that?

"Not without opening up my helmet, no..."

IIRC, astronauts all have to have perfect vision.

A quick check on NASA's website indicates that astronaut's vision has to "correctable to 20/20". I imagine shuttle pilots have more stringent requirements though.

I wonder if they allow glasses, and if so, how they make sure they will stay on! Or if they have prescription suit glass fronts!

Duct tape doesn't stuck to skin very well.

Not that I'd know. Ahem.

From a show I heard on the radio I think they mean correctable to 20/20 by surgery, something they did not allow originally but did after a space tourist with lasik corrected vision went up.
