Short Reviews: Dalekmania, Word Girl
Feb. 11th, 2011 04:03 amDalekmania (1996): A short (47 minutes) documentary obviously produced to plug the then upcoming DVD release of the two Peter Cushing Dalek feature films made back in the sixties, this concentrates more on the movies rather than the origins of the Daleks in Doctor Who's TV serials, or any of the actual "mania" that surrounded the little genocidal pepperpots. Nevertheless it is worth watching just for the insider stories provided by the woman who'd played Susan in both films, and the stunt coordinator's horror stories.
Word Girl: Betty Botsworth is secretly Wooooord Girrrrrrl in this animated PBS production, fighting evil villains and expanding citizens' vocabulary at the same time. Oh, and it has ridiculous amounts of parental bonus, mostly from employing writers from Saturday Night Live and several improv actors. Think if "Rocky and Bullwinkle" were an educational show and you've got it.
