I think I've found the perfect premise to fit in with the recent spate of Grimdark novels. Here's the potential back cover blurb.

A WORLD IN TURMOIL!

In Royce Day's grim and dark predition for our future, America lies on the brink of ruin as liberals destroy the economy to prevent global warming and conservatives reduce women to chattel. As zombies devastate the nation of Africa, the brave, strong, resourceful and obviously heterosexual GALT RAND must make his way across the post-oil European Caliphate to the continent of Antartica to battle the trans-dimensional communist muslim nazi invaders.

But he does not fight alone. In the face of genetically engineered crops spreading a plague of starvation across the world, he must team up with a group that has found a gruesome solution. For only the Grim Meathooks are strong enough to EAT THE DEAD TO SURVIVE.

Here's what others are saying about this new novel!

"A real treat if you think Warhammer 40k is too bright and cheerful."
-J. Nicoll

"Very realistic. It reminds me of the days I was consulting with the government over future developments. Have I mentioned that before?"
-J. Pournelle

"I haven't actually read this, but I think Royce is a nice person who's never been near a tent peg."
-A. Macaffrey

"Finally, Baen publishes a novel with worse cover art than mine usually get!"

Hmm... something with lots of zombies, I think. And blood. And the Grim Meathooks eating the dead!

nah. That would have something to do with the contents of the book. Can't have that, on a cover.

Very true. There would be a girl with a gun however. Especially if there are no signifigant female characters, or guns.

Obviously, what it needs is an exploding starship shaped like a Playboy Bunny. The story must have no mention of space capabilities whatsoever.

Somehow that reminded me of Fallen Angels which I am reading - well, without the zombies that is... :)

Ok, looking forward to you publishing this... :)

Fallen Angels is a Jerry Pournelle novel. He's got a very... negative viewpoint towards the world.
