Gacked from [livejournal.com profile] copperbadge

I'm surprised school libraries are even still stocking it, and happily surprised students are reading it instead of the latest extruded Twilight ripoff.

I started reading Brave New World after checking it out from the High School Library. Remember it starting good, then gradually getting more and more bored with it. Ought to give it another try and see if I was just too young to appreciate the book at the time.

Seems to me though that the complaints about BNW fall, like most other books into two categories. 1, "Oh noes! This book is making my precious child think, s/he's too innocent and precious to survive thinking!" and 2, "Hi! You may recognize me from the Intar-Webz where I play a troll. I just skimmed this book looking for anything to be offended by. Now let me explain to you why you are stupid, evil, and wrong if you like or defend this book." I'm not sure which of the two bothers me more...

I remember reading it and enjoying it myself. Give Huxley this much, he came from a family of doctors and managed to get some things right that weren't even known yet, like the fact fetal alcohol syndrome causes retardation.
