Because otherwise there's a fine fanfic to be written with a rich idiot with no day job Batman expy coming to Ankh Morpok and discovering that Vimes has no interest in becoming Commissioner Gordon.

Actually, Vimes first inclination when encountering a costumed vigilante dressed head to toe in black would be to punch him in the face and call the Assassins Guild to tell them one of their members has lost their biscuit. Then he might punch him again just to be sure he stays down.

Vimes vs Batman... now that would be an epic battle of wits!

With Carrot standing in for Superman thanks to some green magic item he stumbled across. :)

I can totally see Carrot trying to discuss his discovery with Sam Vimes haha!
Now with a Florence Ambrose tie in the comic world fanfic would be complete.

I disagree. Vimes is getting on in years and has to ration his energy. Much better to _kick_ him while he's down to make sure he stays down.

Very good point. Mustn't overstrain himself before The Book is read.

I did once write a snippet of the scene where Commander Vimes meets Judge Dredd and they have a disagreement about who, precisely, is the Law...

snorks. Ah, Judge Dredd. He's the sort of person who would make Carrot say, "I think he takes himself a bit too seriously."

Actually, if you think about it, Vimes already *HAS* created his own Justice League.

That's what The Watch are. They have abilities normal folk don't, and they fight crime. Mostly in their home turf, sometimes outside it.

And then they become an instrument of institutional change, and incorporate an ever growing army of outside-the-box types. Kinda like JLU. They do it all with the tacit approval of the government.

I have had this very idea before, actually. The "Batman on Discworld" thing. I'll post something....
