Dad Update
Sep. 7th, 2004 03:14 pmHaven't made any entries recently mostly because I've been stressing massively about my dad. As it turned out, his miraculous recovery from bronchitis couldn't have come sooner, because the oncologist informed him that the tumor on his spine had to come out right now. Which got his pulmonary specialist upset, because the spinal op was risky at best, and for someone with only 2/3rds of a lung recovering from bronchitis it would be very risky.
But the options were either A) Get the operation and risk possibly being stuck on a ventilator for the rest of his life, or B) being rendered parapalegic by the cancer, so Dad decided to go ahead with the operation.
So the operation went ahead today, and it was successful, with Dad only needing one unit of blood fed into him (massive bleeding was another worry) and no platelets being needed. Now we have to wait and see if they can remove the breathing tube from his throat while he's still unconcious. If they can't do it after a couple of tries, then Dad has left instructions for it to just be removed for good, and let him pass away.
Dad has managed to defy the odds so far, so I'm hoping things go well, but he isn't out of the woods yet.
Edit: 7:30 pm
Mom saw him very briefly just a few minutes ago. He was partially concious, but seemed to recognize her and my sisters, and wiggled his toes when Mom asked. He's still not out of the woods, but at least he's awake and a bit aware.
