Christmas Eve we were driving back from [livejournal.com profile] moonshadowed's brother's place when the temperature indicator shot up into the red. I nursed it back home and re-filled the anti-freeze, which had been bone dry, to normal levels. It didn't do any good and the engine gauge was still shooting up after about 15 minutes travel. So today I brought it into the shop.

Verdict: There's a hole in the radiator and in the coolant pump. Total cost to repair, along with replacing some vital hoses, would be just a hair under $2K. My mom agreed to cover it (she earns more through her Social Security check and her investments than Tracy I do with our jobs) but it was still humiliating ot have to ask her.

I hate this. I hate not having a good job. I being too scared to look for a better one. I hate feeling like we're on the edge of disaster all the fucking time.

I'm sorry to hear you're still having car trouble!

Seriously, check out tech writing for income that you can do after hours or possibly move into.

Have a read of this site
http://www.techwriter.com.au/jobseeker/jobseeker_home.htm

Yes it's not in the USA but it's one of the better resources (I don't know of any in the US but there will be) and the content will help.

Also; http://www.lc.unsw.edu.au/onlib/pdf/techwrit.pdf

You're already a great writer so transferring that across to industry (which actually pays well as opposed to selling creative works to the public) will be reasonably easy. Bash out a few magazine articles or random how-to's should be enough to get your foot in the door.

It's a recognised trade in the USA so you may be able to gain a qualification in it. Something we can't do here in Aus until very recently.

bugger :( We had to get a new car recently - happily Purrdence's Teacher's Union arranged excellent terms - because the car we had was so decrepit even the mechanic said it wasn't worth more repair jobs :/
