jeriendhal: (Red Vixen)

1. After getting over a page written on Shadow of the Red Vixen over the weekend, I've completely stalled out this week. I'm trying to confine my writing time to home, rather than moving the file back and forth from home to work, to minimize the number of formatting problems between Word and Open Office. The problem is that home is busy, with me going to bed only a bit after the kids go to sleep, so I don't really get quiet time (Tom has been waking up super earl in the morning, so no joy there either.) I'm hoping to get a significant amount of work done on Friday, which I've got off.

2. At work I've been writing short installments of a Curse of Chalion fanfic which has actually been going well. Mornings have been slow at work recently so I can just toss a thousand words together and get it posted every day, which is cool.

3. I still haven't done much on beta reading that LoZ fanfic for much the same reason as Point One. I suck.

4. After a month of slow sales at Amazon, where I figured i was only going to get half my usual purchases of CotRV, I got two sales on it last night, making this month's total eight in all, along with a sale each on Teal's Choice and Teal's War. Add in one sale of Unexpected Diversions and sales are looking more normal now. I still want to get cracking on Shadow before sales and interest on CotRV dry up.

Have you tried writing your first draft on google docs, or some other place that doesn't lead to using software depending on location?

Google Docs has the same problem of formatting. I'm trying to everything as I write, rather than do follow up formatting later, which never seems to work well for me. Also I don't particularly care to work in Google Docs for long pieces anyway. The jerky updating and unfamiliar formatting just drives me crazy.

Also there is the much more serious problem that I can't actually access Google Docs at work thank's to my job's nannyware.

Does the nannyware also rule out PortableApps OpenOffice?

Yep. I try to DL either of those my IT guy would have a panic attack. I work in a call center so getting a virus on the computer is an automatic firing offense.

I was actually wondering if the same / similar nannyware would object to you running them off a USB device that you'd prepped at home. Are you e-mailing your work back and forth, or is it on a USB device?

I email the Chalion fic, but SotRV is staying on my home computer.
