Funny thing. The outdated use of third person when dealing with the "less fortunate classes" would be addressing THEM in third person.

Your LiveJournal friend does not normally speak of himself in the third person, but does have occasion to do in written answers to Appeal Briefs from patent applicants. He writes things like, "Appellant next argues . . . Examiner replies . . ."
