Just got the odd thought in my head. What circumstances in Neil Armstrong's history might develop that would persuade the most famously reticent moon walker to make a bid for the Presidency? All I could come up with was him being sticking around NASA long enough to head up the administration ladder to get some political infighting experience, and then ending up a VP pick on one of Glenn's periodic bids for the White House, and the latter dying in office unexpectedly.

I can see him being a real world Aral Vorkosigan. Extremely reluctant to take the job, but doing the best he can out of duty.
