“They're about to hit the three hundred meter mark,” Federov noted. Right where the minefield had been planted.

WARNING: Extreme system damage. Recommend retreat to repair depot.

It ignored the system warning. Its goal was in sight, the barricade of logs and sheet metal erected only ten meters away.

A shot struck its torso, entering its already damaged battery system. Power would cease shortly, but it was so close to its goal now...

Retreat immediately!

It climbed the wall, steel claws digging in for purchase. At the top a rifle butt smashed its left visual sensor, it grabbed it, tearing out of the defender’s hands, tossing it away.

“We’re here to help you,” it said.

Zero power.

SHUTDOWN.

Another double post. Couldn't do this one justice in only one hundred words.

He was a dog of war. He had borne his country's flag through North Korea, Haiti, and New Baja. His onboard memory held the experience of ten thousand soldier morphs to guide his rifle and achieve his goals.

But now he stood on the eve of battle bare pawed with a thousand of his brothers, as Commander Groupmind spoke into his brain.

The opposition retains dumb mortar projectiles, plus non-networked rifles and grenades. You will cross one kilometer of open field, which is likely mined, before climbing the fence. The remnants of the first wave will be destroyed as they short out its electrical charge, while the second waves climbs over them to reach the defenders.

Your goal is to disarm and restrain. Remove the weapons from their hands and prevent them from self-harming before they can be detained. Assist in providing any first aid they may require.

They will curse and spit on you, and they will destroy you by the hundreds, but remember it is for the greater good. You will die so Humanity might live. You will save the world.

Go.

He charged out of the woods with his brothers into a hail of gunfire.

To glory.

Summary: Restrepo is a documentary following a US Army Airborne unit for a year, they're assigned to patrol the Korengal Valley in Afganistan, one of the most war torn regions of the country. While there, they take a strategic hill that the Taliban had been using to rain down fire on American patrols and build an observation post there, naming it after "Doc" Restrepo, a platoon medic that was killed early on after they'd arrived.

Review: They went it to a place where the enemy hated them and the locals were stuck between depending on them for safety and wishing they weren't there. Some success was achieved with the creation of OP Restrepo, but things go to pieces after a disastrous assault on a Taliban position that results in several civilians, including children, being injured and one of their sergeants dying in combat.

You can't help but feel sympathetic as the soldiers do the best job they can, under the circumstances they were presented. But watching it, you wonder what good America is doing for anyone, as we stick our noses where we're not wanted, stir things up, and then just leave once again, leaving things little better.
