I'm currently re-formatting Mimsey's Tale to include some new material to expand it to a more salable length. Today: We get some hints about how bad the environment is.

Fact: Caroline is ten years old.
Fact: She has returned home from school and is doing her homework.
Fact: She is getting a C+ average in her Environmental Awareness class.
Fact: Caroline's parents have purchased a supplementary teaching module to allow Mimsey to tutor Caroline in this subject.

Objective: Successfully aid Caroline in achieving comprehension of assigned subject matter.

"This is boring," Caroline states for the seventh time today concerning the lesson. She is hunched over her tablet. Eye movement indicates her primary focus is on the chat window in the corner, not on the lesson window displaying satellite photos of Superstorm Roland over Florida.

“The environment is a very important subject,” Mimsey states.

“I know. I know.” Her fingers tap the tablet's keypad, entering a message, BRNG MRPH IS BRNG.

“Now, do you know why global temperatures have been rising?” This had been the subject of yesterday's lesson, and following the lesson plan’s guidelines she was verbally prompting to ascertain fact retention.

“People are jerks,” Caroline states. Her timber indicates she does not believe this statement, but is probably attempting a verbal altercation to refocus the lesson plan. Mimsey consults the plan's guidelines again and modifies her approach.

“Not 'jerks' but they might not be thinking about what's really important,” Mimsey states. “Current projections indicate that coal usage in China and India are reaching record levels. This is pumping carbon in the air faster than can cleaned by the forests.”

“Not that there are any forests since all the trees in Brazil were cut down,” Caroline says. “Mimsey, I know that stuff already!”

Mimsey notes the stated comprehension in the deforestation section of the lesson plan. This is positive. “Do you know what you can do to help?”

Caroline sighs heavily and recites, “Reuse, and recycle. Use less energy. Like when Dad uses the solar panels to charge our car instead of just going to the hydrogen station.”

“That's right!” Mimsey uses an excited tone to indicate pleasure at Caroline's comprehension.

Yay,” Caroline say. Her tone indicates a sarcastic agreement, which is not positive.

“Now, can you tell me what the governments are doing to help?”

“Um, pass laws?”

“What kind of laws?”

“Oh, gosh. Mandatory recycling. No plastic bags, no disposable drink containers. Um, that thing between China, the US and the EU.”

“What thing?” Mimsey prompts.

Caroline scratches her head, a known physical tic when she is attempting to process information. “Um, the WISE computers?”

“Very good. Do you remember what WISE stands for?”

Caroline pauses three point six seconds. “Weather Intelligence System Extra-... Extrapolation,” she answers. A positive response.

“That's right! Do you know what it means?”

“Um, it's supposed to predict what the weather is going to like years and years away. Like next century.” A positive response.

“Yes, do you know why that's important?”

Caroline finishes typing HEEEEELP MEEEEEE in the chat window, not making eye contact with Mimsey. “Because it's the only planet we've got.”

“Yes. Morphs like me can only do what humans tell us to. It's up to you to make the decisions.”

“I guess we're in trouble then. Can I go play now?”

Mimsey notes the time spent on today's module, and the ratio of positive answers to negative one. “Go ahead,” she says.

“See ya.” Caroline picks up her tablet and leaves the room.

Man, humans screwed up big time... I'm starting to understand why the Groupmind concluded that the only way to save us was, well, FYS.

... Also, up to 18 superstorms in the first eight months of the year?
Ouch.

Oh, please. If there were 18 Sandy sized storms a year there wouldn't be a building left standing on the planet.

There's also tropical storms, hurricanes, typhoons, snowstorms, tornado clusters...
