Okay, repeat after me: Obama is not the Messiah, Superman, George Bailey, Neo, The Man With No Name, Aral, Miles or Cordelia Vorkosigan, Spock, Kirk or Picard, the Green Lantern (any of them), Superfly, Shaft, John McClane [1], WALL E, either of the Mythbusters or the Goddamn Batman.

He's going to screw up, annoy his supporters, get thwarted by Congress, face international crisises without an easy solution, still be faced with a tanking economy, have underlings that do stupid things that stain his presidency, and we're not likely to see a complete switchover to clean energy sources, a one payer national healthcare system or an invigorated space program anytime soon.

Neverless, compared to who we had the past eight years, I expect he's going to be a vast improvement.

[1] that's McClane, not McCain.

Thank you for so clearly stating what I've been trying to convey to people. It's almost scary how some people think that Obama is their savior and now all their problems are all going to suddenly disappear. It's crazy how much faith people put in someone, though, like you said, it will almost certainly be a step up from the previous leadership.

Indeed, he said as much in several speeches (including the Baltimore speech) and interviews over the last few weeks.

But he'd be a fool to waste the good will and hopefulness that have swept the country.

Today's speech was truly inspiring, and I hope that it takes root.

hehe
Yes, but as I watched and listened today I thought that the good will and hope he has engendered can go a long way to helping fix things. It gave me more hope then I expected to feel.

Shh. He was just trying to help Clark with his secret identity.

thank you - you put this so well.

there is also the call to service that if taken seriously may make the rest a bit easier. no sitting back and waiting for Him to fix it all while we watch from the sidelines keeping notes.

I've been saying this almost non-stop ever since the election -- his heart's in the right place. So many principles are safe now that weren't before. Anything he accomplishes will be pure gravy over and above that.

That said, if I don't stop grinning soon, my face is going to get sore [g].

Snerk. I think Obama has a leg up on Gregor. He's got fewer mommy issues. :)

Thanks for saying that. I love Obama and hope and think that he'll do a good job, but the fervor of some of the ObamaFanbase is very frightening. Especially when the man himself is saying, "this isn't going to be all peaches and cream the moment I step in the White House".

LOL! LOL! Thank you for that wonderful mental image! It's gonna stick for a long, long time.

What about Michelle? I'm seeing a good bit of Cordelia, along with a strong streak of late Ekaterin. :)

And, to hear the news tell it, the fashion sense of Alys. They're already calling her "Michelle O." -- as in "Jackie O.".
