If you want to embed links in LJ ENTRIES, nowhere else on LJ (it involves, I think, a style sheet to get it on, say, your sidebars or whatever), it's done exactly the same way as normal HTML. Just going by the assumption you don't know normal HTML, even though you probably do:
<a href="http://linkurl aka that thing at the top of the browser window">Writing you want to appear underlined in blue at the top of the screen</a>
Actually, I've never really had any training in HTML. The last computer programming class I ever took was a BASIC course in college (yeah, I'm that old.) :)

Are you using an lj client? They make it easier to do things like links by providing handy-dandy buttons and shortcuts. I use Semagic, myself. You can browse the FAQ about clients, or download a client for yourself.
