Is there anywhere on the bloody Net where I can find a guide to writing livejournal entries? Specifically, imbedding links.

Are you using an lj client? They make it easier to do things like links by providing handy-dandy buttons and shortcuts. I use Semagic, myself. You can browse the FAQ about clients, or download a client for yourself.
