According to
http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TheMetricSystemIsHereToStay
futuristic science fiction tends to use metric while futuristic fantasy novels do not.

Excluding urban/modern fantasy, the German ones I can think of tended to use measures like paces, cubits, handspans... a day's march... I know the biggest German pen&paper RPG used kilometres and metres, but renamed them to mile and pace.
It's that olden-timesy feeling, y'know.
